Hotel Zoo, once the pride of Berlin's Kurfürstendamm, has rebounded after an extensive renovation of American design team Dayna Lee and Ted Berner. Together, they have revitalized the iconic place embracing their past glory, while installing a firm sense of modernity. Built in 1889 as a private residence, the legacy of construction as a hotel began in 1911. Once the official VIP hotel for the Berlin International Film Festival, the great catwalk was trampled by the likes of Romy Schneider and Sophia Loren. Re-incarnation of the building as a modern 5 star establishment sees high ceilings restored and the original brick and steel work of developing. Fantasy touches permeate public spaces, where fantasy Alice in Wonderland is invoked with playful proportions. The spacious rooms and suites are equally eccentric, with bespoke furniture and bold Berliner spirit. Luxurious fabrics and contemporary furniture blend with memories of the past, as if the traces of the original family still remain. In the heart of the hotel, the cozy Living Room attracts guests to relax, and a double-sided fireplace flickers inside and in the open-air Winter Garden. Local DJ talent revolves in the lively Gracia Bar, home to the creative and showcasing of the city from near and far.
